Resurgens Charitable Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Resurgens Orthopaedics, recently held a groundbreaking ceremony at East Cobb Park for its seventh all-abilities playground. All-abilities playgrounds enable all children, including those with disabilities, to experience the joy of playing outdoors.
The Foundation is committed to building at least one new all-abilities playground every year.
"We are very excited about partnering with East Cobb Park for our seventh all-abilities playground," said Dr. Kay Kirkpatrick, president of Resurgens Charitable Foundation and co-president of Resurgens Orthopaedics, who attended the event. "We know how essential healthy outdoor play is for children, and we believe all kids should have the chance to experience that."
Resurgens was also represented by Dr. Steven Wertheim, co-president of Resurgens Orthopaedics and Resurgens Charitable Foundation board member; Dr. Joe Chandler, executive director of Resurgens Charitable Foundation; and Dr. Brian Makhuli from the Resurgens Marietta and Chastain offices.
Congressman Tom Price, representing Georgia's 6th District and an honorary member of the Resurgens Charitable Foundation, attended, as did Cobb County government officials Sam Olens (Chairman, Board of Commissioners), Bob Ott (District 2 Commissioner), and Eddie Cannon (Director of Cobb Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs Department).
The playground is scheduled to be completed and ready for children in early September.
Resurgens Charitable Foundation, whose mission is "to support our community with the opportunities to play, to heal, to learn, and to live," was formed in 2001 with a fund raising effort in response to the terrorist attacks on September 11th. Since then, it has evolved to focus on youth health and fitness, raising funds to build specially designed "all abilities" playgrounds for children in the metropolitan Atlanta area. A major goal of the Foundation is to support construction of at least one of these playgrounds a year.
